MONROVIA, April 3 (LINA) – The Chief Medical Officer of Liberia, Dr. Catherine Cooper, has called on private, public, and civil society institutions to help champion the fight against Malaria.
Dr. Cooper made the call at a one-day on-boarding meeting to establish the End Malaria Council (EMC), organized by the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP).
According to an MoH statement issued Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Dr. Cooper disclosed at the meeting that the ministry has made tremendous efforts toward eradicating malaria, but they have not reached their target yet.
“We cannot do this alone. We need the support of our private sector partners, civil society organizations, and every well-meaning Liberian who can contribute resources and ideas to help achieve this goal,” Madam Cooper emphasized.
She noted that the End Malaria Council will play a critical role in mobilizing resources and advocating for effective solutions, with a vision of a future where no one suffers from malaria.
She expressed confidence that, with the council’s leadership and dedication, the Ministry can reach this ambitious goal.
Providing an overview of the council’s structure and objectives, Trokon Washington, Program Manager of the NMCP, disclosed that the End Malaria Council is not a new concept globally but a fresh initiative for Liberia.
He explained that the council aims to support the Pan-African Campaign to eliminate malaria by uniting leaders across government, private, public, and civil society sectors to champion the fight against the disease.
Mr. Washington highlighted alarming statistics, noting that Africa accounts for approximately 94% of global malaria cases and 95% of malaria-related deaths.
According to the MoH release, the event was graced by key stakeholders from public and private institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners, all committed to supporting Liberia’s fight against malaria.
