MONROVIA, Dec. 8 (LINA) – His Majesty, King Mohammed VI of Morocco has taken charge of preparations ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup expected to be jointly hosted by Morocco-Spain-Portugal.
In an effort to demonstrate the political will of the Moroccan leader, King Mohammed VI chaired the Wednesday December 4, 2024, edition of the Council of Ministers in Rabat.
According to a statement from the Atlantic -Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) dated December 5, 2024, at the outset of the Council’s session, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the Budget and Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Committee, delivered a presentation before His Majesty the King on the progress of the Kingdom’s preparations to host this international sporting event.
The statement revealed that FIFA’s evaluation report on the bid, published on November 29, 2024, awarded an outstanding score, far exceeding the stipulated requirements.
The statement added that this achievement sets the stage for the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid to be officially awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup during the upcoming extraordinary FIFA Council Congress.
To rise to the challenge of an organization that lives up to the aspirations of His Majesty the
King, the statement announced that the Minister announced that, in accordance with the High Royal Directives, an expanded committee will be established, which includes representatives from civil society, Moroccan expatriates, and African talents.
The statement added that the mobilization will be further reinforced through coordinated efforts with all stakeholders to expedite the execution of strategic and structuring projects relating to hosting this global event.
Additionally, the FAAPA communication indicated that to ensure the smooth hosting of the tournament, several projects have been activated including the upgrading of stadiums, the expansion and renovation of airports in the six host cities, the enhancement of road infrastructure and the densifying intra-urban networks.
The statement also disclosed that an integrated territorial upgrading program that extends beyond the host cities of the World Cup games will also be launched, hotel and commercial infrastructure will be developed, and medical services will be strengthened and modernized.
Also, the FAAPA statement furthered that telecommunications networks will be developed and modernized and a comprehensive training program to strengthen the skills of young people will be launched.
Meanwhile, the statement asserted that King Mohammed VI of Morocco has prioritized the advancement of football and sports, aiming to establish the Kingdom of Morocco as a premier host for major international sporting events while fostering social and professional inclusion of Moroccan youth, especially women.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King, who champions enhanced South-South cooperation and deeper integration of the Kingdom of Morocco within Africa, is exemplified by the impactful initiatives led by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) in international cooperation.
The statement indicated that the FRMF has signed over 45 partnerships with African football federations and also hosts African national teams during FIFA match dates when their home stadiums do not meet CAF approval standards.
The statement maintained that Morocco has become a key hub for CAF competitions, hosting events such as the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations this summer and the Africa Cup of Nations in December 2025, citing that this momentum will culminate in an even greater achievement: co-hosting the prestigious 2030 FIFA World Cup.
