MONROVIA, Feb. 27 (LINA) – The Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), Jerolinmek M. Piah, has assured the public that the administration of President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. will remain steadfast in its commitment to effective governance and accountability.

Speaking Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the official launch of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Minister Piah emphasized that Liberia remains a key pillar of transparency, reaffirming the government’s dedication to openness and responsiveness in line with OGP principles.

He stressed that openness and transparency are essential for strengthening Liberia’s democratic credentials, ensuring the country serves as a model for others.

The government’s renewed commitment to OGP compliance, he noted, reflects its dedication to accountability and public trust.

Minister Piah recalled that Liberia joined the Open Government Partnership 14 years ago, an international framework designed to promote accountability and transparency.

He highlighted that OGP serves as a critical benchmark for assessing governance performance, with public involvement playing a vital role.

He also acknowledged the significant role of civil society organizations as watchdogs in promoting good governance and transparency.

“Over the years, Liberia has remained compliant with OGP requirements, except in 2023, when the country missed the submission of its National Action Plan. However, the OGP team quickly addressed the gap, ensuring Liberia’s full compliance with OGP benchmarks,” Piah stated.

He further noted that achieving this milestone marks a significant moment in the government’s drive toward transparency and openness in its operations.

The MICAT Minister expressed gratitude to fellow ministers, executive chairpersons, the Commissioner General, and Chief Justice for their unwavering support in advancing OGP commitments.

He also extended appreciation to the National Steering Committee and civil society organizations for their dedication and invaluable contributions to the development of Liberia’s 5th National Action Plan.
