MONROVIA, APRIL 17 (LINA) – Local authorities at the Liberian Government Hospital in Tubmanburg, Bomi County have raised concern over the growing waves of traditional delivery in homes as reported across various districts in the county, citing that it is leading to a surge in maternal and child mortality.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday April 15, 2025, The Medical Doctor at the Local Government Hospital in Tubmanburg, Dr. Levi Korheina said home birth in Bomi has negatively contributed to the leading wave of maternal and child mortality in the county.

According to Dr. Korheina, reports have indicated that home delivery is commonly taking place in Tubmanburg and various districts making it difficult for pregnant women to use health facilities for better health care delivery.

Dr. Korheina further explained that such practices put both the mothers and their babies at serious risk and contribute significantly to maternal and infant mortality or early child death.

The government hospital medical Doctor further used the opportunity to call on pregnant women across the county to avoid home delivery as it poses serious risk to both the mother and the new born child.

However, Dr. Korheina urged parents to make use of the available health services, especially during childbirth, to ensure safer deliveries.

Dr Korheina called on the community, especially local leaders, to support efforts in promoting facility-based deliveries to help reduce maternal deaths and improve healthcare outcomes in Bomi County.
