MONROVIA, April 8 (LINA) – The Deputy Minister of Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Andy G. Quamie has announced April 17, 2025, as the official opening date of the Intra-Governmental Tournament which is hosted periodically to promote inclusiveness and unity amongst the government workforce at all levels.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism regular press briefing on Tuesday, April 9, 2025, Minister Quamie disclosed that the tournament is intended to create an opportunity for all employees at State-owned enterprises, and autonomous agencies to come together in an inclusive manner in respective of their positions, qualification and status under one umbrella in maintaining peace and unity across line ministries and agencies.
The Minister added that the tournament affords the opportunity to everyone at every workplace to have a means of interaction through sports because sport is a unifying instrument that unites people from diverse walls of society.
He disclosed that this year, the organizers have managed to bring together all government ministries and agencies to participate or play in this edition and as a way of adding more flavor and fairness in the competition, they have instituted few committees ranging from Disciplinary Committee headed by the General Audit Commission, Internal Audit Agency, National Identifications Registry and other members which would help to promote fairness.
“Because the goal of the tournament is to give government employees at every level the opportunity to interact and share ideas, the tournament allows participating teams to register not more than five contractors who reached the age 35 years and above but with a valid contract letter,” Minister Quamie noted.
“If you are a contractor, you must submit a valid contract letter and it will be validated and approved by a committee consisting of GAC, CSA, NIR, MYS and other members so as to avoid cheating where people from our 1st , 2nd and 3rd divisions are not allowed to play. If you are appointed by the President but do not reach the age, you are an exception,” he disclosed.
The intra-government tournament was inaugurated during former Liberian leader Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidency in 2006 to bring government’s workers together as one to celebrate peace and unity.
