Making the disclosure Friday March 7, 2025, during the International Women’s Day celebration at the Ministerial Complex in Monrovia, the Gender Minister explained that the ministry has disbursed its initial payment of over a million United States Dollars to their lead service provider under the Liberia Women Empowerment Project.
According to her, this financing support aims to enhance women’s economic empowerment through small business support and address harmful social norms in over 700 communities.
She applauded the World Bank for the support, citing that despite these efforts, challenges persist, as more work remain to be done to improve the livelihood of the women in Liberia.
Min. Horace-Kollie emphasized that Liberia remains fully committed to closing the gender gap in economic participation, education, and decision-making. Importantly, she said, Liberia has secured a financing agreement with the European Union (EU) valued at over €20 million under the Spotlight 2.0 initiative.
However, she added that this significant partnership aims to strengthen efforts to combat sexual and gender-based violence, alongside addressing other related issues under the Spotlight Initiative 2.0, as she extended the ministry’s sincere appreciation to the European Union for their continued support.
The Gender boss further extended warmest appreciation to their local and international partners for their ongoing support in advancing women’s rights and gender equality in Liberia especially the National Civil Society Council of Liberia, particularly the Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia for the technical and material support.
She explained that the government’s intention is clear to bridge the gap and empower women across the nation.
